The Toccata in the style of Corelli is a work by the Spanish composer and guitarist Santiago de Murcia (c. 1682 - c. 1739), included in his collection Passacalles y obras from 1732. This piece reflects the influence of the Italian style on Spanish music in the 18th century, paying homage to the renowned composer Arcangelo Corelli. The work is structured in four movements: Grave, Allegro, Despacio, and Giga, combining elements of the Italian Baroque with Spanish musical tradition.
The guitarist and composer José María Gallardo del Rey created a free adaptation of this toccata, incorporating an additional movement in the style of the original composer. This adaptation, published in 2013 by Editorial Reyana, is intended for classical guitar and retains the Baroque essence of the original composition while offering a contemporary perspective. The piece has an approximate duration of 8 minutes and presents a moderate level of technical difficulty.
