"Homenaje a Tárrega" is a guitar piece composed in 1932 by Joaquín Turina (Seville, 1882 - Madrid, 1949) in honour of the great guitarist and composer Francisco Tárrega. Written at the request of the Schott publishing house, this piece serves as a tribute to Tárrega's legacy and his impact on the guitar repertoire.
The work consists of two movements: Garrotín and Soleares, two flamenco styles that Turina adapts to the language of classical guitar with his characteristic impressionistic style. The Garrotín is a lively and rhythmic dance, while the Soleares present a more introspective and expressive character.
Influenced by Andalusian music and the Spanish nationalist school, Turina combines technical virtuosity with a rich harmonic palette in this work. Homenaje a Tárrega is a fundamental piece in the concert repertoire, reflecting the fusion between flamenco tradition and academic music.
